This image shows the palette closed, sitting on credit cards for scale: Demonstrating why it’s ideal for travel. It also shows the palette fully open, loaded with pigments that have been mixed on the various mixing surfaces of the palette.

Artists sometimes enjoy using a more limited range of colors as a way to better understand color mixing and to help create a more harmonious look in their finished paintings. It’s referred to as a “Limited Palette;” often six colors or less and can be very compact. However, tiny palettes typically lack usable mixing space. This is unfortunate, since a limited palette often requires pigments to be mixed frequently to create a good range of colors and shades. Despite its tiny size, the Micro finally solves this problem; It was designed to provide maximum deep mixing surfaces when it’s fully open.  The Portable Painter Micro is actually smaller than a credit card, just one-inch thick and astonishingly, only 1.5oz/43gm. Yet it transforms in seconds to a complete, professional watercolor palette; with plenty of deep mixing wells, a convertible water container and six, standard-size half-pans ready for your favorite colors. It includes a sturdy, T-shaped finger grip on the base and a handy lanyard hole. It fits effortlessly in a pocket, purse or daypack so it’s perfect for travel, urban sketching and plein air painting. Its tiny size and feather-weight, make it ideal for artists who enjoy the outdoors and who value the ultimate in compact size and uncompromising usability. It’s a perfect companion for ultra-light hiking, camping and biking; always there, whenever or wherever you find yourself. It can be securely attached to your journal or sketchpad with a simple bulldog clip. This allows both to be held comfortably in one hand, while freeing your other hand to paint or draw. Enjoy rugged, quality construction, and versatile design, for left or right hand use.
