My dog Dee Dee had a great pal; a soft-coated Wheaton Terrier called Sophie. I became very fond of her over the years and was very sad in the Spring of 2019 when she passed. I really felt the loss, in ways that surprised me. At the beach, missing her her boundless energy and delight, vicariously feeling her freedom as she ran into the waves. Taking her for hikes where the domestication fell away and she became the dog she was, at heart. Visiting her owner and upon leaving, finding Sophie curled up in my rolling caseJ I know that she had a good life and believe it was her time, but I cherish the memories. As part of letting go and honoring what was, I did a rough sketch of her sweet face. I later joined a class that specialized in making assemblage art from various fabrics and natural materials like driftwood, seed-pods and twigs etc. I immediately thought to make an effigy of Sophie and enjoyed the heck out of the process. It came together very quickly and is a great reminder of her lovely animal spirit.
